… well it’s not quite time to go back, but it is time to start organizing and getting into the mindset. There’s lots to do before we begin 3rd grade. For starters, I need to create the calendar – when do we start? When do we end? What about vacation days? What about our daily schedule? What subjects do I teach? What curriculum do I use?
We’ll start off with the school calendar.
First Day of School – August 31
Labor Day / Beach Tuesday – September 8
Columbus Day – October 12
Papa’s Birthday – October 20
Mama’s Birthday – November 12
Thanksgiving Break – November 26th & 27th
Megan’s Birthday – November 30th
Christmas Vacation – December 21st – January 8th
Martin Luther King Jr.’s Birthday – January 18th
President’s Day – February 15th
Easter Vacation – April 2nd – 9th
Last Day of School – May 7th
Quarter 1 – August 31st – October 23rd
Quarter 2 – October 26th – December 18th
Quarter 3 – January 11th – March 5th
Quarter 4 – March 8th – May 7th
Inevitably something will change during the school year, but this is our guideline. Life has a way of happening, unexpected company, unexpected field trip opportunities, and so on. But as long as we stick close to our plan, it works out. As details get worked out, I’ll post them.
Megan will be going to New Jersey to visit Aunts, uncles, cousins and Grandma for one last vacation before summer ends. While she’s gone I’ll be redoing the homeschool room — can’t WAIT.

Well, I guess it’s time for me to get somewhat formal too. Maybe I’ll work on my calendar tomorrow during slow times at work. Steph is on her way to COLLEGE this week, and Gus is nearly finished with his AIT. We will be going to TX for his graduation. Joey is officially in Kindergarten this year, and we will formalize his recognition of letters and numbers, learn some addition and subtraction facts, some measuring.
We have had a busy summer with T-Ball, Jr. Track & Field, swimming lessons, VBS x 3 (yes, I’m the mom the drives around looking for when churches are holding their programs) We may try for one more session of swimming lessons and it’s time to get signed up for soccer and tumbling.
I’ll have to call you soon so we can catch up with each other.
